La Buena Onda Hostel offers a 6-person dormitory room with big lockers for each guest. The dormitory has its own bathroom only for those sleeping there. All beds have comfortable, thick mattresses to give everybody a good night’s sleep.

Matagalpa is great for hiking, coffee and cacao tours, walking through the city and meeting friendly people to create your own experience.
Besides Matagalpa’s style, you can also enjoy your stay by visiting places within and around the city like the Carlos Fonseca Museum, the Coffee Museum, a chocolate factory, San Pedro Cathedral, Dario Park, Morazan Park, nature reserves like Apante and El Arenal, coffee plantations, farms and small but welcoming communities.
The most outstanding building in Matagalpa and the third most important cathedral in all of Nicaragua. It was declared a national heritage site in September 2007. Construction was started on the neoclassical church in 1874 under the direction of the Jesuit priest and architect Alejandro Caceres, known as Tata Caceres by the indigenous and older people. The church was first opened to Catholic celebrations on January 1897.
This is the native home of the historical Matagalpan revolutionary and founder of the FSLN. In the museum you will find pictures, newspaper articles, and a few of his possessions.
This museum focuses the history of coffee in Matagalpa and the whole process from bean to cup. It also has some historical pictures of the city.
Matagalpa is home to two cemeteries. One is the local cemetery and the other is the cemetery for foreigners (the only one in Nicaragua). Most foreigners buried here are German coffee-growers but the most famous person buried there is Benjamin Linder, an engineer from the USA who was killed near Matagalpa during the Contra war.
Hiking is one of the top activities in the surroundig area of Matagalpa. It’s known for due to the numerous cloud forests which are easily accessible and also for having a perfect climate for coffee growing. Lots of travelers come here to visit the farms.

One of the higher mountains surrounding Matagalpa. The top is located just 10 minutes away from the center, which make it an easy walk when you visit the city. It´s possible to find little waterfalls and vegetation on the trail of the reserve, along with animal like squirrels, chameleons, different birds, butterflies and spiders. The trail goes to the top, where the visitors have a beautiful view of the city and surroundings
A unique and pleasant place built in 1975 in the mountains of Matagalpa. It is located at the kilometer 140 on the road between Matagalpa and Jinotega, in a coffee producer province and near to beautiful uphills covered with virgin and cloud forests. Also it is possible to enjoy activities like horse riding, bird watching and some other things like orchids and reptiles.
An impressive waterfall located not too far away (15 km ) from Matagalpa city, it offers the chance of enjoying a pleasant and relaxing bath, camping or having a picnic.
The ecologic park El Calvario is located at the south-west area of the city; with a height of 854 meter over the sea, this place has a pleasant weather and one of the best panoramic views of the city. Since October 2013 there is small zip-line course.
Matagalpa is known for its good coffee due to the the mountainous surroundings. The whole region is filled with coffee plantations and they are definitely worth a visit. Hostal La Buena Onda offers a room with private bathroom with hot
shower, closet, desk and king size bed located in the back of our patio.
This room is quieter and darker than our other rooms.
